Ingredients

1 ½ cups all-purpose flour

1 cup granulated sugar

½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1 tsp baking soda

½ tsp salt

1/3 cup vegetable oil

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 tsp white or apple cider vinegar

1 cup water

½ cup chocolate chips (optional for added richness)

Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

Mix Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, combine the vegetable oil, vanilla extract, vinegar, and water. Whisk together until blended.

Combine Mixtures: Create a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour the wet mixture into it. Stir gently until just combined; be careful not to overmix. The batter will be somewhat runny.

Add Chocolate Chips: If using, fold in the chocolate chips into the batter until evenly distributed.

Bake the Cake: Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.

Cool the Cake: Once baked, remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then, gently turn it out onto a wire rack to cool completely.

Serve: Once cooled, dust the top of the cake with powdered sugar if desired. Slice and enjoy your Wacky Chocolate Cake plain or with whipped cream and berries for a delicious treat!
