Toffee Chocolate Bars

1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks)

1 cup brown sugar, packed

1 cup granulated sugar

1/4 cup light corn syrup

1 tsp vanilla extract

1/2 tsp salt

For the Chocolate Layer:

2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

1/2 cup chopped nuts (peanuts or almonds are great)

1/2 cup toffee bits (optional, for extra crunch)

For the Base:

1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs

1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 cup powdered sugar

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

Instructions
 

Prepare the Base:

    - In a large bowl, combine graham cracker crumbs, cocoa powder, powdered sugar, and melted butter. Mix until the ingredients are well-combined and resemble damp sand.

      - Press the mixture firmly into the bottom of a greased 9x13 inch baking pan to create an even layer. Set aside.

        Make the Toffee:

          - In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the brown sugar, granulated sugar, corn syrup, and salt. Stir continuously until the mixture comes to a boil.

            - Once boiling, stop stirring and let it cook for an additional 5-7 minutes until the mixture reaches a deep amber color. Keep an eye on it to prevent burning.

              - Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Carefully pour the hot toffee over the graham cracker base, spreading it evenly. Allow it to cool for about 10 minutes.

                Add the Chocolate Layer:

                  - After the toffee has set slightly, sprinkle the semi-sweet chocolate chips evenly over the warm toffee layer. Let it sit for a few minutes to allow the chocolate to melt.

                    - Use a spatula to spread the melted chocolate evenly across the top.
