Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/3 cup granulated sugar

2 tsp baking powder

1/4 tsp salt

1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

1/4 tsp ground nutmeg

1/4 cup whole milk

1 large egg

2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted

1 tsp vanilla extract

1/4 cup maple syrup

1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)

Oil for frying

Instructions

Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined.

Mix Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, mix the milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.

Combine Mixtures: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, and gently stir until just combined. Do not overmix; the dough should be slightly lumpy.

Heat Oil: In a deep saucepan or fryer, heat about 2 inches of oil to 350°F (175°C).

Form Donut Holes: Using a small cookie scoop or your hands, form the dough into balls about 1 inch in diameter.

Fry Donut Holes: Carefully drop the donut holes into the hot oil, a few at a time, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

Make the Glaze: In a medium bowl, whisk together the maple syrup and powdered sugar until smooth.

Glaze the Donut Holes: Once the donut holes are cool enough to handle, dip each one into the maple glaze, allowing any excess to drip off. Place them on a wire rack to set.

Serve & Enjoy: These sweet donut holes are best served warm. Dust with additional powdered sugar if desired and enjoy!
