Before marinating your chicken wings, it's crucial to rinse them thoroughly under cold water. This step helps remove any residual blood or impurities, ensuring a cleaner taste. However, rinsing alone is not enough to achieve the desired crispiness. After rinsing, pat the wings dry with paper towels. Removing excess moisture is essential because moisture can create steam during the cooking process, preventing the wings from becoming crispy. A dry surface allows the seasoning and coating to adhere better, contributing to a more satisfying crunch once air-fried.

Ingredients

2 lbs chicken wings

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)

1 teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon black pepper

½ teaspoon dried oregano

½ teaspoon chili powder

2 tablespoons hot sauce (your favorite brand)

Optional: Fresh cilantro or green onions for garnish

Instructions

Prep the Wings: Rinse and pat dry the chicken wings with paper towels. This helps achieve a crispy texture when air-frying.

Marinate: In a large bowl, combine the olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, black pepper, dried oregano, and chili powder. Whisk together until smooth. Add the chicken wings and toss to coat thoroughly. You can marinate them for at least 30 minutes in the fridge for more flavor or up to overnight.

Preheat Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 380°F (193°C) for about 5 minutes.

Air Fry: Place the marinated chicken wings in a single layer in the air fryer basket (you may need to do this in batches depending on the size of your air fryer). Cook for 25-30 minutes, turning the wings halfway through to ensure even cooking. The wings should be golden brown and crispy.

Sauce Them Up: Once the wings are cooked, remove them from the air fryer and place them in a large bowl. Drizzle with hot sauce and toss well to coat. Adjust the amount of hot sauce based on your desired heat level.

Serve: Transfer the spicy wings to a serving platter. Garnish with fresh cilantro or chopped green onions if desired. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce, such as ranch or blue cheese.
