Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 cup brown sugar, packed

1/4 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1 cup pecans, chopped

1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)

Sea salt for sprinkling (optional)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with cooking spray or line with parchment paper for easy removal.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar. Mix until well combined.

Add the eggs and vanilla extract to the sugar mixture and stir until smooth.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring gently until just combined. Do not overmix. Fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips and chopped pecans.

Pour half of the batter into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly across the bottom. Bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes.

After 10 minutes, remove the pan from the oven and drizzle half of the caramel sauce over the baked layer. Spread it gently to cover the surface.

Spoon the remaining batter over the caramel layer, taking care to spread it evenly across without disturbing the caramel.

Drizzle the remaining caramel sauce on top of the second layer of batter. Use a knife or a toothpick to swirl gently for a marbled effect.

Return the pan to the oven and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.

Once baked, remove the bars from the oven and immediately sprinkle with sea salt if desired.

Allow the bars to cool in the baking dish for about 15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before cutting into squares.
