Ingredients

1 cup chopped pecans

1 cup brown sugar, packed

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 (15 oz) can pumpkin puree

1 (18.25 oz) box of yellow cake mix

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 1/2 cups water (or enough to cover the cake mix)

Whipped cream or vanilla ice cream (optional, for serving)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with non-stick cooking spray or butter.

In a medium bowl, mix together the chopped pecans, brown sugar, granulated sugar, melted butter, pumpkin puree, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Blend until fully incorporated.

Pour the pumpkin mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly. The mixture will be thick, so make sure to smooth it out.

Evenly sprinkle the box of yellow cake mix over the pumpkin mixture. Do NOT mix them together; this is crucial for the dump cake effect.

Slowly pour enough water over the cake mix until it's completely moistened. Again, do not stir. This will create a delicious cake layer as it bakes.

Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

Remove from oven and allow to cool for about 10 minutes before serving. If desired, top individual servings with whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra treat!
