4 large russet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced

2 cups cooked ham, diced (smoked ham works wonderfully)

1 medium onion, finely chopped

2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese

1 cup sour cream

1 cup milk

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon black pepper

½ teaspoon paprika (for a little kick)

1 cup breadcrumbs (optional, for a crunchy topping)

2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (for the breadcrumbs if used)

Instructions
 

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

    Prepare the Baking Dish: Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with cooking spray or butter. This will prevent the casserole from sticking.

      Layer the Ingredients: In the prepared baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes evenly across the bottom. Follow with half of the diced ham and half of the chopped onions.

        Cheese It Up: Sprinkle one cup of the shredded cheddar cheese over the first layer.

          Second Layer: Add the remaining potatoes on top of the cheese layer, followed by the rest of the diced ham and chopped onions.

            Mix the Sauce: In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the sour cream, milk, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and paprika until well combined. Pour this mixture evenly over the layered ingredients in the baking dish.
