Ingredients

For the Taco Meat:

1 lb ground beef (or ground turkey for a leaner option)

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 medium onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 packet taco seasoning (or homemade: 1 tsp chili powder, 1 tsp cumin, 1 tsp paprika, 1 tsp onion powder, salt & pepper to taste)

1/2 cup beef broth (or water)

For the Toppings:

1 cup shredded lettuce

1 cup diced tomatoes

1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or a blend)

1/2 cup diced onions (red or white)

1 cup salsa (mild or spicy, based on preference)

1 cup sour cream or Greek yogurt

1 avocado, sliced or guacamole

1/2 cup pickled jalapeƱos (optional)

Fresh cilantro for garnish (optional)

For the Taco Shells:

8-10 corn or flour tortillas (soft or hard shell, based on preference)

1 tablespoon olive oil (for soft shell tortillas)

Instructions

Cook the Taco Meat:

    - In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.

      - Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.

        - Increase the heat to medium-high, add the ground beef (or turkey), and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spatula as it cooks (about 6-8 minutes).

          - Drain excess fat if needed. Stir in the taco seasoning and beef broth. Let it simmer on low heat for 5-7 minutes until the mixture thickens and flavors meld.

            Prepare the Toppings:

              - While the meat is cooking, prepare your toppings. Chop lettuce, dice tomatoes, slice onions, and avocado. Set aside all toppings in small bowls for easy access.

Warm the Tortillas (optional if using soft shells):

                  - In the same skillet, add a touch of olive oil and warm each tortilla on medium heat for about 30 seconds on each side until pliable. If using hard shells, follow package instructions to crisp them in the oven.

Set Up the Build-Your-Own Taco Bar:

                      - Arrange the warm tortillas, taco meat, and toppings on a large table or countertop. You can provide small spoons and tongs for easier serving.

                        - Encourage everyone to build their perfect taco with their choice of meat, toppings, and sauces.

                          Garnish and Serve:

                            - Serve immediately and enjoy the interactive experience of Taco Night with family! You can add fresh cilantro on top of assembled tacos for a burst of flavor.
