Ingredients

12 oz fresh mozzarella balls (bocconcini), drained

1 cup all-purpose flour

2 large eggs

1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably panko for extra crunch)

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp dried oregano

1 tsp paprika

Salt and pepper, to taste

Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)

Fresh basil leaves, for garnish

Marinara sauce, for serving (optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Ingredients: Start by draining the mozzarella balls and patting them dry with a paper towel. This will help achieve a crispier texture.

Set Up the Breading Station: In one bowl, place the flour mixed with salt and pepper. In a second bowl, whisk the eggs. In a third bowl, mix the breadcrumbs, garlic powder, dried oregano, paprika, and a pinch of salt and pepper.

Bread the Mozzarella Balls: Take each mozzarella ball and coat it in flour, shaking off any excess. Next, dip it into the egg mixture, allowing any excess to drip off. Finally, roll it in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing down gently to ensure it adheres well. Place the coated mozzarella on a plate and repeat with remaining balls.

Heat the Oil: In a deep skillet or a pot, pour in enough oil to submerge the mozzarella balls (about 2-3 inches deep). Heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test it by dropping in a breadcrumb; if it sizzles immediately, the oil is ready.

Fry the Mozzarella Bites: Carefully add a few mozzarella balls into the hot oil at a time, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes, turning occasionally until they are golden brown and crispy on all sides.

Drain and Cool: Use a slotted spoon to transfer the crispy bites to a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil. Repeat with the remaining mozzarella balls.

Serve: Arrange the crispy mozzarella stuffed bites on a serving platter and garnish with fresh basil leaves. Serve warm with marinara sauce on the side for dipping.
