Ingredients

1 large Italian loaf or baguette

4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon fresh basil, chopped (plus more for garnish)

1 teaspoon salt

1 cup fresh mozzarella, sliced

1 large heirloom tomato, sliced

1 cup fresh basil leaves

1/4 cup balsamic glaze

Freshly cracked black pepper to taste

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

Prepare the Garlic Butter: In a small bowl, combine the softened butter, minced garlic, chopped fresh basil, and salt. Mix well until it forms a smooth garlic butter.

Slice the Bread: Cut the Italian loaf or baguette in half lengthwise. Place the halves cut side up on a baking sheet.

Spread the Garlic Butter: Generously spread the garlic butter mixture over the cut sides of the bread, ensuring even coverage.

Bake the Bread: Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for about 10-12 minutes, or until the bread is golden and crisp.

Layer the Toppings: Remove the bread from the oven. Layer the sliced mozzarella evenly over the garlic butter. Next, add the tomato slices and fresh basil leaves.

Return to Oven: Put the topped bread back in the oven and bake for an additional 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Drizzle with Balsamic: Once out of the oven, drizzle the balsamic glaze over the melted cheese, and sprinkle with freshly cracked black pepper and additional fresh basil for garnish.

Serve: Slice into pieces and serve warm as an appetizer or a side dish.
