Blondies, often referred to as the lighter counterpart to brownies, have carved out a beloved niche in the dessert world. Their soft, chewy texture and sweet, buttery flavor make them a favorite among dessert lovers. Unlike brownies, which are rich in chocolate, blondies highlight the deep, caramel-like sweetness of brown sugar and the richness of butter. This unique dessert has gained immense popularity, thanks to its versatility and ease of preparation.

Ingredients

1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter

1 1/4 cups brown sugar, packed

1/2 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup dark chocolate chunks

Flaky sea salt, for sprinkling on top (optional)

Instructions

Brown the Butter: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Continue to cook, stirring frequently, until the butter foams and then turns a lovely golden brown color with a nutty aroma, about 4-5 minutes. Keep a close eye to prevent burning. Once browned, remove from heat and let it cool slightly.

Mix Sugars: In a large mixing bowl, combine the browned butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar. Whisk until well blended.

Add Eggs and Vanilla: Add the eggs, one at a time, whisking between each addition until fully incorporated. Stir in the vanilla extract.

Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

Integrate Dry and Wet Mixtures: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix. Be sure to fold in the dark chocolate chunks.

Prepare the Baking Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9x13-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal. Lightly grease the paper and the sides of the pan.

Bake the Blondies: Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (not wet batter).

Cool and Slice: Once baked, remove from the oven and sprinkle with flaky sea salt, if desired. Allow the blondies to cool in the pan for about 15 minutes, then use the parchment overhang to lift them out and cool completely on a wire rack. Cut into squares and enjoy!
