Ingredients

8 oz spaghetti or linguine

1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined

4 tablespoons unsalted butter

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust for spice preference)

1 lemon, juiced and zested

1/2 cup chicken broth (or vegetable broth)

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Salt and pepper to taste

1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Optional: 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved

Optional: Fresh basil leaves, for garnish

Instructions

Cook the Pasta: In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook the spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside. Reserve 1/2 cup of pasta water.

Cook the Shrimp: In a large skillet over medium heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter. Add the shrimp and season with salt and pepper. Cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side until they turn pink and opaque. Remove from the skillet and set aside.

Make Garlic Butter Sauce: In the same skillet, add the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter until melted. Add the minced garlic and red pepper flakes, and sauté for about 1-2 minutes, until fragrant (be careful not to burn the garlic).

Add Liquids: Pour in the chicken broth and bring it to a simmer. Stir in the heavy cream, lemon juice, and lemon zest. Allow it to simmer for 2-3 minutes until slightly thickened.

Combine Pasta and Shrimp: Add the cooked pasta and shrimp back to the skillet. Toss to coat everything in the sauce. If the sauce is too thick, add reserved pasta water, a little at a time, to reach your desired consistency.

Finish with Cheese: Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese until melted and well combined. Adjust seasoning with more salt and pepper if needed.

Serve: If using, fold in the halved cherry tomatoes just until warmed through. Remove from heat and garnish with chopped parsley and fresh basil if desired. Serve immediately and enjoy your delicious garlic butter shrimp pasta!
