Ingredients

4 medium-sized apples (Granny Smith or Braeburn)

2 cups fresh blackberries

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1/2 cup brown sugar (divided)

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup rolled oats

1/2 cup unsalted butter (cold and cubed)

A pinch of salt

Instructions

Prepare the Fruit:

    - Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

      - Peel, core, and chop the apples into bite-sized pieces.

        - In a mixing bowl, combine the chopped apples with fresh blackberries, lemon juice, 1/4 cup of brown sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla extract.

          - Toss the mixture gently to combine, then set aside to marinate.

            Make the Crumble Topping:

              - In another bowl, mix the flour, rolled oats, remaining 1/4 cup of brown sugar, and a pinch of salt.

                - Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture. Using your fingers or a pastry cutter, work the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

                  Assemble the Crumble:

                    - Transfer the fruit mixture into a greased baking dish (about 9x9 inches works well).

                      - Evenly sprinkle the crumble topping over the fruit.

                        Bake:

                          - Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the fruit is bubbling underneath.

                            Serve:

                              - Allow the crumble to cool slightly before serving. Pair it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for an extra treat.
